The Jonas Gutierrez deal has been done and he has signed for Norwich on loan.
    16:50

Simon: 'I think Rich is attempting to extend an olive branch (albeit a slightly barbed one) re his earlier Suarez comments. He makes a fair comment about our defence, however in their 'defence', Rodgers has barely been able to field the same back 4 for two games in a row! Hopefully once we get some players back from injury, and get a run of games with a consistent back 4, they'll improve. Until then I'll settle for the Kevin Keegan school of 'we'll score more than you!'
    16:48
Everton striker Nikica Jelavic insists a move to Hull suits him after talking over the transfer with Tigers manager Steve Bruce.
    16:45

Brad Smith: 'Gordon - Klinnsman returned to spurs and kept them up.'

Rich Lynn: 'Richard, I think King Kenny could have played up front that day. Especially after the ref had sent Paulinho off for nothing. Can I just point out that I'm not finding fault with Suarez at all (apart from the obvious) - I'm saying that he has to continue in similar vein or do even better for Pool to finish 4th, or challenge higher. Again, or learn to defend. I'm not bigging up Spurs in any way, and never do on here, especially as we are in transition, but you do realise there's only 2 points between the two sides - despite the flood of goals you've scored. Hence my point re defence/keeper.'
    16:02

Noel Madden writes: 'In response to Gordon, Ian Rush won a league title and scored in at least one FA cup final winning team in his second spell at Liverpool. Luther Blissett scored 21 in his first season back in the first season in a struggling Watford team so not a bad return at all and enough to justify an article in 'Shoot'. I'd give my right arm for any player to return to Spurs and do either of the above. I'll give you another returnee to pick the bones of; Mark Hughes to Man United.'
    16:00

Samir Nasri out for around eight weeks after suffering injury against Newcaslte on Sunday. He tweeted: 'Thank you everyone for your kind words and overwhelming support, i suppose its kind of good news that i will be out around 8 weeks.'
    14:45

Richard Marsden: 'I bet Rich wishes that Luis Suarez had gone missing at White Hart Lane, I find it incredible that a Spurs fan is trying to find fault in a striker who has scored 22 league goals, while his team have totalled only 26, noting that he failed to score against City (who scored 6 past Spurs) and then suggests Liverpool could try defending. Unbelievable.'
    14:32

Jay: 'Rich I think saying we wasted our money on Mignolet is a bit harsh, he's performed very well most of the time. Reina was making a lot of noise about leaving to Barca and we as a club had to protect ourselves. Of course it would be great to have kept them both but when we went for Mignolet, having Reina on the bench I imagine was a luxury we couldn't afford not would Reina be happy with a world club place wanted. I think we've bought well, he's made some cracking saves although I do wish he'd learn to catch a cross.'
    14:15

David Bradley says: 'Suarez stats for the year 22 goals, 5 assists. And for anyone who has watched Liverpool he is a constant threat for them. As a United fan hoping we can get into the top 4 this guy's form has me worried, even if he goes missing in a game against City or Chelsea. If he keeps scoring and Liverpool keep winning and grinding out results at times in all their other games then the other teams fighting for top 4 should be worried, including United.'

He got 10 goals last season as well. Yes at face value 25 million for a youngster is a good deal but long term he will be worth more.'

    14:40
Huddersfield look to have completed the formalities of Joe Lolley's switch from Kiddersminster. The promising forward signed off in style on Tuesday as he netted the winner in a memorable 3-2 FA Cup third round victory over Peterborough.
    14:35

Sandesh has emailed in: 'The Nani to Sporting Lisbon story, if true, is really strange. Our only options on the wings are an inconsistent Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young who is injured and mostly not good enough when he is fit and an 18 year old starlet in Janujaz. Wilfred Zaha has hardly played this season and might go out on loan himself. Nani has only just signed a 5 year deal in August so any move would most likely only be a temporary one. He has been injured for the last couple of months but if he gets a consistent run in the team and rediscovers his confidence then he can be a real handful. Unless we have someone lined up to replace him I for one definitely won't want him to leave.

We go to France for an e-mail from Alan Anderson: 'Hello Nick and I just thought I'd see what's happening back in Blighty with the news here in France that Salomon Kalou is being lined up by Spurs - I have to say it's a surprising one on a number of levels. Despite pretty much all of the Ligue 1 sides (except PSG and AS Monaco) being open to offers for players this one seems slightly odd. Kalou hasn't be particularly at the top of his game for Lille despite them sitting third in the table (I saw him against Bordeaux last November and he was pretty ineffective and subbed after an hour). He's only scored 6 times and 2 of those were penalties (do Spurs need a new penalty-taker??). He's playing as an out-and-out central striker rather than the more left-sided role he played at Chelsea but he'd hardly be a marquee signing down at the Lane and seems that Lille despite be well-placed/aiming for CL (or Europa as a worst-case) are bothered about keeping him.'

Movement in the Tom Ince market as Monaco have now moved into odds-on 1/2 favourites with Sky Bet to sign the Blackpool winger this month. Following his father's recent sacking as manager at Bloomfield Road, defensive midfielder Barry Ferguson is 8/13 to be the next permanent boss.

Brad Smith: Looking forward to the big game on Saturday - Bournemouth v Liverpool. Myself and the Lynns hometown. I advise all LFC fans not to bother with TC next week if we knock you out. :-) Cannot wait.'
    16:08

Simon Somerville writes: 'Sorry for all the stats folks that's what happens after living in Canada for 22 years! To appease the faithful I pose the following to Chelsea: Consider loaning Mata to Liverpool before you sell him to United! I would argue this increase the chance of Liverpool taking points off Arsenal and City as much as it would United increasing your title chances! The schedule and Man U's position helps them with negotiations with Chelsea since they do not have to play each other again but would Mata want to go to Man U at this point in time and not play in Europe next year? Well I guess it is better than not playing at all. Would it involve Rooney eventually going the other way? Of course Liverpool would add an option to buy Mata in the summer, which they would trigger if they made Champions League.'
    15:40

Rich Lynn: 'Simon, what does your post actually mean? Do Liverpool have to play 98 friendlies at Anfield to keep hold of Suarez?'

Richard Marsden says: 'That post from Simon, absolutely full of facts and figures...there's no place for the likes of him on the TC...what we thrive on is opinion, conjecture and baiting...facts just get in the way.'

Rich Lynn: 'Actually Ken, that only happens 78% of the time ....'
    14:55

Hello to Ken Livermore: 'What is it with baseball ? The very mention of the word always ensures an avalanche of stats is not far behind. Never known a sport like it !!!'
    14:50

An excellent post earlier on from Simon Somerville but here is a slight amendment: 'Sorry I made an error! Boston debt repayment is not $151m a year. They have a small debt probably due to the Stadium enhancements in recent years and a small portion and total Gate receipts for the year of $179m is net of this payment.'
    14:45

Hello to Simon Somerville: 'Just wanted to weigh in on the Billionaire money talk! Paul if you are comparing Baseball to the EPL as an example of Billionaires throwing money at a team consider the following: Liverpool has a relatively small stadium and had a gate receipt of 42m in 2012 as well as the 5th highest payroll of 119m almost 3 times that of the gate. They made a loss of 41m in 2012. Boston had the 4th highest payroll last year at around $150m (8 players make up $100m of this) this was nearly $80m less than the New York Yankees who have a massive stadium and generate huge revenue. Big numbers! However they play 162 games a year 81 home games which means $833,333 per game. Boston has a small ground circa 37,400. The average attendance for home games is 34979 total attendance for the year 2,833,333 the average ticket was $53.38 which means gate receipts of $151,243,315. Obviously there are cost associated with running the stadium (gate receipts go towards debt repayment) and huge costs moving a baseball team around the country for 81 games and spring training but we have not even factored in concessions, TV revenue or Sponsorship deals and revenue generated from the Playoffs. Overall they generated $336m in revenue last year and there player expenses were $190 (includes benefits and bonuses).'

    14:45

Hello to Colin: 'I don't know what the fuss is all about over the Mata fee. Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool have all paid over the odds for players over the past few years so why not United. It will take more than one purchase to solve the problems at Man U but the significance of no RVP and Rooney is huge. If these two were in the line up last night, United would be going to Wembley. Anyway it is what it is and Machester will need teams to come back to them while getting some traction and putting a winning streak together. It's a very competitive league and all the top teams will drop points especially as some progress in the CL and I expect most of to them to move on in the next round, including United.

Ken Livermore: 'Looks like the next signing for Chelsea, or Spurs is going to be the Brazilian Romulu. The asking price is 10 million, and exactly on trend, Liverpool have offered 8 million. So whilst we haggle over the difference you can expect one of the London teams to nip in and sign him.'
    13:00

John Egan: 'Noel, Liverpool fans already know how it feels as Liverpool were trying to sign Willian before Spurs came in and that was why I found it funny when Chelsea did the same to spuds.'
    11:40
Brendan Rodgers insists any January signing has to be able to make an immediate contribution - He also talks about Mohamed Salah.
    10:58

Noel Madden says: 'Oh how the Liverpool fans laughed when Willian snubbed Spurs to join Chelsea, now they know how it feels (even though I don't rate him). Not sure how Jay reckons Chelsea didn't need Willian. He has been one of their key players for the last couple of months. I also think the theory of Chelsea signing players simply to prevent rivals strengthening has been well and truly blown out of the water by their willingness to sell Mata to United. On a separate note; Vertonghen, Paulinho, Kaboul and Sandro came back from injury in a friendly game yesterday. All 4 have been absent from our run of 16 points from 18. Will any other squad improve as much in January?'
    10:55

Kumar writes: 'I agree with Mr. Anderson. Ferguson would never stoop to the level of acquiring a rival's world class bench warmer. He would only stoop to the level of spending a record fee on a player who stands in the center circle looking completely disinterested in the match just to force a move to United.'
    10:50

Alan Anderson: 'Morning Matthew and just a couple of things from over here in France. Firstly the on-off transfer of Yohan Cabaye to PSG from Newcastle is in danger it seems as with Paul Pogba likely to join PSG in the summer it'll leave too few midfield places available and rumour is that's putting Cabaye off the move (apparently he's also still happy at Newcastle). Also my view on the Juan Mata news for what it's worth: since when did Man U (obviously) take cast-offs from their main rivals? Is this a whole new level of ignominy? I can't ever imagine that SAF would have stooped to accept a rival's 'bench-warmer' regardless of the fee involved.' I wouldn't class Juan Mata as your average 'bench-warmer'.'

Colin Ross writes: 'It will be interesting to see where Luke Sha lands. At United he will pretty well land himself a starter role as I think Evra wants to finish his career in France and he is on the wrong side of 30. Not sure if an 18 year old will get the same starts at Chelsea although he is a very talented young man and Chelsea fan to boot. United may decide to splash the cash with the very exciting prospect of Shaw and Januzaj playing together.
