    1pt each-way Judicial Enquiry in 3.55 Redcar at 15/2

Judicial Enquiry has been well held in his three runs in maidens, all at big prices, but he has taken a small step forwards with each outing and this move into handicap company may well represent a far more realistic assignment for this son of Lawman with the step up to a mile expected to suit. The booking of Graham Lee for the ride is encouraging - as is the early market support - while Newmarket based trainer Ed Walker has won with six of the eight juveniles he has run at the track. 2pts Sheffield Wednesday to beat Newcastle at 3/1

After three straight defeats in the Premier League, Newcastle desperately need a bit of stability and consistency so a Capital One Cup clash with a decent Sheffield Wednesday side would be pretty low on their wish-list. The Owls have some dangerous players at their disposal including Atdhe Nuhiu, who scored the only goal of the game when they knocked Oxford out in the previous round, while a 3-2 weekend victory over Fulham should see the visitors coming into this with their tails up. Wednesday won't be overawed by the stage given the size of their own stadium and although changes will be made by both managers, Carlos Carvalhal's side look great value to cause a mini-upset. 2pts win Mash Mad Rumble (T5) in 9.06 Romford at SP

There is an interesting A1 at Romford tonight and Mash Mad Rumble (T5) is fancied to bounce back in the top-grade affair. Following two impressive-trap-to-line wins in good times, Dave Mullins' charge missed the kick when third behind the reopposing Deanridge Smurf last week. However, he should have too many early gears for these if normal service is resumed at the boxes and is very tough to peg back at this level when getting on the bunny. (Chris Oliver)

1pt Imperial Legend to win 4.30 Musselburgh at 9/2 (best odds guaranteed)

In Imperial Legend David Nicholls has a frustrating six-year-old on a lengthy losing streak but crucially now a well-handicapped horse. Fully 7lbs lower than his last winning mark at Haydock (admittedly back in the summer of 2013) he has shown flashes of form this season notably at Pontefract last time. He went down all guns blazing to Soul Brother in a ding-dong finish, showing the fire still burns. Headgear was dispensed with that day and remains off today - and Paul Quinn retains the ride. With a stack of good course form to his name he ticks plenty of boxes and makes appeal around the 5/1 mark. This isn't a strong contest and while Ruby's Day rates a potential threat at big prices, I'm happy to side with Imperial Legend. If he's ever going to regain the winning threat today is the day. 2pts over 2.5 goals in Belgium v Israel at 8/11

Belgium could well enjoy themselves against an Israel side that must be deflated by their failure to beat Cyprus at the weekend. Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku and co are a daunting proposition for any side and Israel face a difficult task. Victory could see them snatch a play-off place if Bosnia and Herzegovina slip up at home against Cyprus but it will not be easy to break down a strong Belgium defence (just one conceded at home) and they could leave themselves vulnerable at the back if they over commit. As such, backing the game to produce over 2.5 goals appeals more than the odds against about a Belgium win to nil which is a perfectly conceivable result. (Ian Ogg)

1pt Lightfoot Mata (T3) to win 7.58 Sheffield at SP

Lightfoot Mata can make the most of a return to home sand by landing the 7.58 at Sheffield this evening. Elaine Parker's October '13 whelp shaped with plenty of promise at the South Yorkshire track before heading to Towcester for a puppy event, in which he ran a good race for second in the final. Following a satisfactory sprint trial at the weekend, he has a nice make-up in the white jacket between slow starters and is fancied to turn in front, a position from which he would be very tough to reel in. 2pts Duck A L'Orange to win 3.05 Brighton at 2/1 (Price Boost)

Duck A L'Orange's two main rivals in this maiden both look quite vulnerable, Richard Hannon's Albe Back (ridden by Marquand) looking particularly paceless last time out, and Duck A L'Orange shaped very nicely when third behind a good-looking winner at Windsor last time. He's progressing with experience, something that can't necessarily be said about his opposition, and trainer Michael Bell has had three winners from 13 runners in the last eight days, so there is no concern over stable form. Though they may well know more than we (most do), Sky Bet are price boosting his odds, making a small wager even more tempting. (Will Hayler)

2pts Atlanta/Atlanta in HT/FT market v New Orleans at evens

The Saints have plenty of problems, starting with an offensive line that can't block and allowed another five sacks of quarterback Drew Brees last weekend. The absence of Marques Colston is another blow. In contrast, the Falcons have been a surprise package under their rookie head coach Dan Quinn and very few pundits would have seen them starting the season 5-0. The Mercedes Superdome has lost most of its aura now in terms of intimidation after a spate of home defeats that only came to an end in the overtime victory against Dallas in week four but this Atlanta outfit looks to have much more to offer than the Cowboys. Quinn and co won't want to keep relying on a last-gasp rally for victory - they've come from behind four times in the final quarter so far this season - so expect them to get on top early here. 2pts Maum Legend to win 9.08 Newcastle at 5/4 (best odds guaranteed)

There is a brilliant night of racing at Newcastle tonight as the William Hill All England Cup Festival reaches its conclusion, live on Sky Sports. Always one of the best cards of the year, there are four finals on the menu and the main course is undoubtedly the All England Cup decider. Maum Legend is a warm favourite to claim the £10,000 first prize following a dazzling performance in the semi-finals on Saturday and Jimmy Wright's local is fancied to justify his position at the head of the betting. Having recently returned from a lengthy lay-off, he found top gear again with an excellent 28.23 at the weekend as he blew away his rivals - including Swift Whirlwind who was over four lengths back in second. Another 4.60secs sectional can see him turn in front again, but leading is by no means a necessity for the strong-running son of Cashen Legend and he should have too many gears if turning handy behind other potential leaders Calzaghe George and Farloe Nutter. 2pts win Always Lion 5.05 Worcester at 5/4 (Best Odds Guaranteed)

Always Lion showed a smart level of form in bumpers, winning on debut before placed efforts at Cheltenham and Ascot. In the latter contest, he was beaten five lengths attempting to concede 4lbs to Wait For Me who went on to finish third in the Cheltenham Festival bumper, a race in which Always Lion finished 17th. That was disappointing but is obviously one of the strongest races of its type during the season and it's usually a race that can be relied upon to throw up plenty of winners the following season. It's no surprise, therefore, that he's a warm favourite for his hurdling debut but he looks a decent bet at odds against. (By Ian Ogg)

1pt Memphis Depay to score any time in CSKA Moscow v Man United at 5/2

He came in for all kinds of criticism following his (admittedly wretched) first-half display against Arsenal; he was dragged off at the break and left on the bench against Everton. However, Van Gaal quite rightly has huge faith in the former PSV youngster and it'd be good to see him back in the starting XI before his confidence takes a real dip. Memphis has scored three in this competition already and highlighted his goalscoring prowess when opening his league account in the 3-0 victory over Sunderland at the end of last month. I remain completely convinced that he'll become a star at Old Trafford and at odds bordering 3/1 I'd like to keep him on side. Stakes, of course, will be returned should he not be picked. The Alan Speechley Fengate Collar 2015 gets underway at Peterborough with three heats this evening and Lenson Tiggy (T5) can show his rivals a clean pair of heels in the second instalment at 9.15. The son of Lenson Bolt and Newtown Cora won a warm Birlem Oil Standard in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Sittingbourne earlier this month and he confirmed his current well-being when beating smart kennel companion Lenson Jed in a trial over tonight's course and distance last week. 1pt Letter Exit to win 2.00 Southwell at 12/1 (best odds guaranteed)

Placed in point-to-points in Ireland, the step up in trip and switch to chasing should suit Letter Exit who has shown a modicum of ability between the flags and in two runs under Rules. His latest run behind the useful Southfield Royale suggests that he is not overburdened for his handicap debut and the early market support lends encouragement while his trainer, Lucy Wadham, operates at a near one-in-four strike rate at the track. (Ian Ogg)

DOUBLE YOUR WINNINGS on the 2.00 at Southwell!
    Football
    1pt Draw/Liverpool in HT/FT market v Rubin Kazan at 3/1

This clash gives Liverpool a perfect window in which to fine tune a few things ahead of some testing domestic assignments and they'll certainly be hoping to open their Europa League account and perhaps record a first victory by two clear goals of the season. Given they've been so short of firepower this term and Daniel Sturridge will not be risked following his latest knee injury, there's no real inclination to get with the home side against the (-1) handicap at no bigger than 6/4 - indeed the temptation is to expect a slow-burner. Liverpool have only scored four first-half goals in the Premier League and Europa League all season and although Jurgen Klopp's recent arrival counts for something in terms of the intensity with which they're likely to start, there's a strong chance the home faithful will have to be patient. With Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino set to be fit enough for the bench, a quiet opening period is likely to result in changes at the break and I'd fancy the English side's superior conditioning to see them through eventually, even if it isn't all plain sailing. Take the 3/1 draw/Liverpool in the half-time/full-time market and rejoice at the Kop's mumblings on the stroke of half-time. (Matt Brocklebank)

Three heats of the Hove Thursday Night 500 - 475 open the card on the south coast this evening and Seamus Cahill's Southfield Jock rates banker material in the second instalment at 7.46. Desperately unlucky not to win the East Anglian Derby at Yarmouth last month - when headed right before the line by subsequent Kent Derby hero Do It For Twiggy - the son of Droopys Scolari beat the RPGTV Henlow Derby favourite Fire Height Tosh at the Bedfordshire track three starts ago and if bringing that level of form to the table he should take some stopping.
