Former Tottenham youngster Kenny McEvoy has spoken of his relief at being released to join another club.

The Ireland U21 international has been on loan at York City and the League Two side are hoping to tie him down to a contract at Bootham Crescent.

McEvoy, who had been part of Spurs academy since 2011 but never made a first-team appearance, has admitted his frustration at not being allowed to leave the Premier League club in the summer.

"In my own head I made the decision five months ago that I wanted to go elsewhere to start my career as first-team player, as I did not see it happening at Tottenham no matter how much effort I gave it," McEvoy said.
