Carl Frampton hopes to send out a warning to rival Leo Santa Cruz when he faces replacement opponent Everth Briceno on July 20 at Wembley.

Frampton had originally been due to fight Fabian Orozco, but the Argentinian suffered an upset defeat and he instead faces the dangerous Briceno.

The Nicaraguan has 26 stoppages in his 35 wins and took Cruz to the 11th round before being halted by the unbeaten Mexican in 2011.

Cruz could be a future foe for Frampton after stepping up to super-bantamweight and the Belfast man plans to make a statement by blasting out Briceno.

"Everth Briceno is a great fighter. The guy has fought for the world title on two separate occasions," said Frampton.

"He also boxed Leo Santa Cruz who is a future rival of mine, so I aim to do a better job on Briceno than Cruz did.

"I am in the best shape of my life right now. I am improving in training every day, sparring great, and I'm looking forward to showcasing my skills at Wembley on the 20th."
