    The Brazilian had looked to be on the verge of joining Tottenham earlier this week but the Blues have outmanoeuvred their London rivals and the forward will now move to Stamford Bridge subject to a work permit being granted.

    "The transfer is subject to a work permit hearing on Wednesday."

    1988: Born Willian Borges da Silva on August 9 in Ribeirao Pires.


    1998: Joins Corinthians and rises through the club's youth ranks.


    2005: Helps Corinthians win the famed Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior.


    2007: January - Wins South American Under-20 Championship with Brazil.


    May 3 - Makes league debut in a 1-0 victory over Juventude.


    August 2 - Scores first goal for Corinthians in a 2-2 draw against Atletico-PR.


    August 23 - Signs a five-year deal with Shakhtar Donetsk after agreeing a £12million move to the Ukrainian side.


    September 15 - Makes debut in a 2-1 victory over Chornomorets Odesa.


    October 31 - Scores first goal for the club in a 4-1 victory over Arsenal Kyiv.


    2008: May - Ends first season at the club having won the Ukrainian league and cup.


    2009: May - Wins the Europa League with Shakhtar following their 2-1 extra-time victory over Werder Bremen.


    2010: May - Wins the Ukrainian league again with Shakhtar.


    2011: Scores eight goals in 43 appearances as Shakhtar win a domestic treble.


    November 10 - Makes international debut in Brazil's 2-0 win over Gabon.


    2012: January - Chelsea and Tottenham both enquire about his availability, but Shakhtar hold on to their star man.


    May - Helps Shakhtar to another league and cup double.


    July - Admits he was "really upset" to have been denied a move to England and reveals he is close to Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas. "He always sends me messages. He has become a friend, for sure," Willian says.


    2013: January 31 - Completes a £30million move to Anzhi Makhachkala.


    February 14 - Makes Anzhi debut in 3-1 Europa League win over Hannover.


    August 7 - Transfer-listed after Anzhi's billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov outlines plans to slash the club's hefty wage budget.


    August 20 - Tottenham and Liverpool make a move for the player, and he appears to have chosen north London over Merseyside.


    August 23 - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho indicates Willian has chosen a move to Stamford Bridge, despite having previously passed a medical with Spurs.


    August 25 - Chelsea announce they have signed Willian, subject to a work permit being granted.

    Decent player. Should do well. Though I reckon he'll come on strong next year.
